In conjunction with the regional Ministry of Health we have set up a committee composed of specialists in the treatment of the heart, eyes and ENT in particular, as well as surgeons and general physicians.
KSC personnel also pay home visits to all families to determine what the family situation – living arrangements, family background, medical history, and economic status. In this way we build up a clear picture of the help required by each individual family. Families with sufficient means do not receive finance but we do help with medical consultation and make any necessary arrangements for treatment.Those suffering financial hardship benefit from the whole package.
If medical treatment is not available locally we arrange for the child to go to Baghdad or overseas. In collaboration with foreign governments and NGO’s we try to provide the best possible treatment for the child. First of all KSC personnel arrange for a medical consultation, following this, they help with any preparation needed for the treatment. After any operation, make follow-up visits to check the recovery and give any necessary training. We pay for any hospital check-ups, for example in cases of leukaemia where regular examinations are vital. KSC also runs a rehabilitation centre for children. Here they get equipment and professional instruction and practice and to improve their mobility. The Children's Rehabilitation Centre (CRC) is situated in Sulaimaniya, but for children living outside the city, KSC arranges transport to and from the centre. |
